Anders Wahlstedt Fine Art presents “Frank Stella / Selected Prints from the Moby Dick Series,” featuring seven prints.
The mixed media deckle edged prints on view are dramatically different from the more open compositions and elegiacal tone of Stella’s earlier Moby Dick engravings, according to the gallery. The artist’s process for creating the prints began with working collages composed of built up cut-out material. Cut-outs came from prints, earlier proofs, halftone dots and plastic construction grids. Plates were then produced from these collages, with Stella continuing to manipulate the materials until he arrived at the final compositions, which include dramatic, radiant colors and images.
